The Director General has overall responsibility for Finanstilsynet’s operations. In addition, Finanstilsynet has a Board of Directors that considers and decides individual matters concerning the supervised sectors.
The Management Team
The Director General is appointed by the Ministry of Finance for a term of six years. The term may be renewed once for up to six years. The day-to-day management is in the hands of a management team, which, in addition to the Director General, consists of the the Deputy Director Generals, the General Counsel and the Communications Director.
Per Mathis Kongsrud was appointed Director General of Finanstilsynet on 15 August 2023 by the Council of State for a fixed term of six years.

The Board
Finanstilsynet’s Board of Directors has seven members. The members are appointed by the Ministry of Finance for a period of up to four years. The members may be reelected for a total term of up to twelve years. The Ministry of Finance nominates the Chair and Deputy Chair of the Board.
When the new Financial Supervision Act came into force on 1 April 2025, the function of the Board was changed from having overall responsibility for Finanstilsynet’s operations to considering and deciding individual matters concerning the supervised sectors. Finn Arnesen was reelected as Board Chair on 11 March 2022 and continues to function as Chair of the new Board.
